5 Ways to Ring in the New Year Safely

We can all agree 2020 was not what we had expected when the ball dropped at midnight on January 1. This year had a lot of ups and a whole lot of downs, but if you’re reading this, guess what? You’ve made it to 2021. And for that, you deserve to celebrate. BUT let’s make sure to keep our celebrations safe and covid-appropriate this new year. Whether your pod is your family or a circle of close friends, we’ve curated NYE celebrations that will keep you safe and sane. Read below for ideas on how to celebrate New Years with your pod (that are also COVID-19 approved).

#1 - Get Outside with the Pod

With the amount of time that we all spend indoors these days, getting outside and hiking your local peak sounds like the perfect way to ring in the New Year. Or maybe you want to go on a bike ride around your neighborhood park. Whatever it is, breathing in some fresh air (through a mask of course!) and taking in the view with your family or pod will give you fresh perspective and space to reflect. Bring some snacks, a bottle of water, and a Heroclip to hang your essentials and you’ll be ready to enjoy a morning or day outside, depending on how ambitious you are feeling.

#2 - Movie Night

While big parties and champagne cheers might not be appropriate to ring in the New Year due to COVID, a cozy movie night with the family or pod is a perfect solution. Grab some popcorn, your favorite candies, and set up the living room with blankets and pillows to create the full experience. Keep your HDMI and speaker cords organized with a Heroclip. There are numerous different websites to stream movies on such as Hulu, Netflix, DisneyPlus, and even Youtube. With movie theaters still closed in many cities, you are able to premiere new movies from the comfort and safety of your home. Have a vote to pick the movies for the night to keep things interesting. We think this a low-effort, safe, and fun way to ring in the New Year with the people you love.

#3 - Zoom Game Night

“Can you see my screen?” Most of us have gotten pretty used to that one liner. Let’s switch up using Zoom just for work and use it to have some fun. A Zoom game night is the perfect way to party safely this year without having to limit the amount of people joining in on the fun. Codenames, Scattergories, and Trivia are some fun ones to get your ideas flowing. There are also Virtual Escape Rooms that multiple people can join in on to solve puzzles together. You’ll be surprised how rowdy and competitive everyone can get over a computer screen.

#4 - Outdoor Socially Distanced Hangs

The beginning of the pandemic had people all over the place gathering in the open tailgates of their SUV’s, local parks, and backyards for social distanced gatherings. While this may not work in places with snow and freezing temperatures, some folks in warmer states can definitely get away with this. Throw on your mask, use a Heroclip to hang up some lights in your car trunk, and park at least 6 feet away from your friends to have a New Year celebration. Or if you have a big backyard and can practice safe social distancing with masks, have a bonfire with 1 or 2 close friends. A helpful tip, especially if you live in an area with colder winters, is to bundle up with jackets, warm socks, and lots of blankets to make sure you will last until Midnight. Everyone can bring their own poppers and bubbly drinks to do a socially distanced cheers.

#5 - Go Digital and Connect with Friends and Family

Zoom doesn’t just have to be for the game night. Use it to host a virtual party. Make it formal or themed for a reason to get out of those sweatpants you were working all week in and putting something on to make it feel a bit more normal. Share a recipe and make an appetizer or cocktail together and cheers each other within the safety of your own homes. Use a Spotify Group session and host a virtual dance party. Share your screen and have a trivia night. Maybe even have a decoration contest for best video background. You can use a Heroclip to hang streamers or lights or can paint a huge poster board that secures your win for best background. The virtual opportunities to ring in the New Year are endless and a way to stay connected after a hard year.

Celebrating 2021 may feel limited, but we hope that this blog sparks some ideas for you to still enjoy and celebrate with the people you love. We at Heroclip want to wish you a Happy New Years and remind you to hang in there!
