We intentionally end each email to our community with a quote by Robert Ingersoll: “We rise by lifting others.” This idea speaks to the early days of Heroclip where we laid our roots in the world of crowdfunding.
Heroclip was born from a Kickstarter campaign in 2014. In those early crowdfunding days, we called the product “Qlipter,” and there was the very real possibility that the product was not going to be funded for production. Our founder, Mina, knew she was taking a risk when she hit “launch” on the first day of the Kickstarter campaign. She only knew of a few people who would definitely back the project - one of them was her husband Mark, who dropped in the first $20 to get the ball rolling.
We were humbled when backers flooded in from all around the world to fully fund that first campaign. Not only was the product funded, but we had created a global, online community full of people we had never met but who ended up being the furthest thing from strangers. This community is an incredible, powerful, and underestimated tribe who support innovators and help validate their ideas and vision.
These people shared more than their backing. They shared our idea, our dream, our passion.
Crowdfunding has long been seen as the initial investment to launch a new product or idea. However, if done correctly, it provides a lot more value than money can afford. These supporters are investing their faith in an idea and a future built on people, not large companies. This future roadmap grows with each new idea that receives backing.
If we had decided to run our business more traditionally, we would build and sell products focusing solely on short-term profit margins instead of innovating and leading with ideas. Through crowdfunding, we created a product users desire which, in turn, validated our place in the market. By listening to guidance and suggestions from our Herocrew Facebook Group and product evangelists that have been with us since day one, we implement thoughtful features and additions to our products that put our community at the center of Heroclip’s evolution. Big money can’t buy that kind of invested feedback and engagement.
This is why we believe Heroclip doesn’t have customers, we have a community. We love that the Heroclip community believes in innovation and the development of better products because they love creating, making, and doing more with their time. We are always looking to highlight Heroclip communitymembers through story submissions for our Everyday Hero series and discover new ways to connect with our members.
We rise by lifting others. We know that we wouldn’t be here without our community, and we sincerely hope you will allow us to grow and continue to provide you with the products you love.
We look forward to growing and progressing together.
Warmly,
Ciara
