Crafting the Visual Story of Heroclip

Crafting the Visual Story of Heroclip

I started with Heroclip in 2017 not knowing that gear clips were a “thing.” I knew what a carabiner was, and knew that people used clips, but I didn’t realize how popular gear management accessories were.

Right away, it was obvious there was a powerful metaphor in Heroclip’s function. It flips, it swivels, it pivots, it transforms. Heroclip is versatile; if you wanna make it look good, you better be, too. One day, I’m shooting video miles away from the office; the next, I’m redesigning our packaging. Every day feels like a new direction that requires a different approach, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My heroclip holds my photo bag while I shoot Heroclip holding my photo bag. Pretty cool.

Among the toughest but most rewarding hurdles I’m faced with is photographing our product. Heroclip is a shiny, curvy amalgam of aluminum, steel and plastic, and it’s small! It catches light in weird ways. It gets hidden by the gear it’s holding. For every pic that makes it to our Instagram, there are 50 that are scrapped. But Heroclip's also hanging my camera gear out of frame, literally lending a hand while I take photos of it. There’s a beautiful efficiency in that, one that keeps surprising me in new ways.

It’s refreshing to work with a company that produces something new and unique, and allows you to experiment creatively and try new things. Since starting at Heroclip, I’ve been illustrating various characters and animals to better express our brand and team. Toward the end of 2018, we decided to take that a step further, so we got creative and designed beanies, mugs and stickers to bring it all to life. Seeing it come to fruition was awesome and it gave me the chance to explore and create in new ways.

Here I am, modelling the products I helped create, with a tripod and self-timer. We have a small team ;)

That spirit of curiosity and creation drives Heroclip and everything that we do together. There’s always another adventure, with new challenges and learning experiences just over the horizon. I hope life’s daily adventures motivate and captivate you, and I hope you enjoy the journey as our brand grows and experiments with new creative throughout 2019.

Stoked to have you along,
